Mercmarine Training

The mission of Mercmarine Training is twofold. One is to impart academic knowledge of the techniques required by a seafarer, and the other is to provide practical training in the skills that come from long years of experience acquired at sea by professional seamen.

During the past two decades we have seen significant changes in the life of a seaman. Previously ships had large crews, and young sailors spent up to one year at sea during their training. This provided the time and opportunity for them to learn on the job, from experienced seniors. Now the ships are more sophisticated, crews are smaller and their voyages are shorter. As a result new recruits have to be well trained, disciplined and ready to take on challenges from day one, and our training methods have kept pace with these new requirements.

In addition the strict international shipping industry regulations require a high standard of professionalism to operate ships in international waters. Each crew member has a responsibility towards the rest of the team, and it is vital that they play their part perfectly if they are to succeed. Hence the need for formal, bespoke training for the officers and seamen of shipping companies, so that when a seaman gets on a ship he or she is fully trained and confident. That is the function of Mercmarine Training.

We provide training in Shipboarding, Ship Management and Crew Management. The Mercmarine Group provides the resources necessary to keep Mercmarine Training focussed on the task. We have the latest of equipment, and a highly skilled faculty with long experience in all practical aspects of the shipping industry.
