The programme is delivered in levels 3 through 6 over four academic years with a total of 120 credits. It is offered in English, Sinhala and Tamil, enabling flexible participation across the island. Entry requirements

To register for level 3 of the Bachelor of Education (Honours) in Primary Education, you must meet one of the following:

  • Be at least 18 years of age on the closing date of application with at least three passes at the G.C.E. Advanced Level and six passes at the G.C.E. Ordinary Level including First Language and Mathematics.
  • Have successfully completed the Advanced Certificate in Pre-School Education programme conducted by The Open University of Sri Lanka. 
  • Hold at least pass grades in a minimum of thirty course credits or granted exemptions at SLQF Level 2 of any foundation programme conducted by The Open University of Sri Lanka and six passes at the G.C.E. O/L including First Language and Mathematics. 
  • Possess a Primary Trained Teachers’ Certificate offered by Government Teacher Training Colleges. 
  • Hold an equivalent or higher qualification acceptable to the Senate of The Open University of Sri Lanka. 

All applicants must sit a selection test conducted by the university as part of the admissions process.
