BSc (Hons) in Computing

On this one-year top-up degree, you will build on your previous studies. Develop advanced technical skills, learn to patent your designs, and prepare a professional portfolio ready for industry. You’ll work real business briefs on this course – from the development of mobile apps to mission-critical software. Computing problem solving and software engineering are the focus of this degree.

You'll develop skills in high and low-level languages including C/C++, Java, Python, HTML5, and CSS and will use a range of Agile Methods including Scrum. You’ll present your work in a professional manner, developing an industry-ready portfolio of your projects and achievements.

You will be required to complete an individual research project related to the main theme of your studies, in an area that interests you. This can take the form of a practical or theoretical project with the support of a lecturer with relevant expertise. You will have your own personal tutor supports you throughout your studies. If you’re not sure what your career goals are, they will work with you to help shape your plans.

Entry Criteria

Applicants with Level 5 qualifications (for example Higher National Diploma, ATHE Level 5 Diploma in Computing) from approved awarding bodies will be considered for transfer to the final stage of the BSc programme and earn their degree in one year. Applicants who have successfully completed 2 years of study at a University can be considered for direct entry with advanced standing. Other equivalent qualifications may be accepted for entry to this programme.
