Diploma in Nursing

As the council recommendation it is necessary to have three years – Diploma in order to get the SLNC registration or upgrading to degree level in the future.  Therefore, the curriculum of the NTS (National Training School) was revised completely and the curriculum for the Diploma in Nursing was designed under the academic board meeting. This curriculum is having 60 credits value as the SLQF – 4 (Sri Lankan Qualification Frame Work 2016).

The curriculum was designed to reflect the student centered problem based learning instead of the traditional teacher centered information providing learning in the domain of knowledge, skill, attitude – professionalism, mindset and paradigm. Each subject’s syllabus was designed in order to reflect these domains.

The First year curriculum was developed to provide necessary backbone of Medical and Nursing Field. The second and third year were designed as the target of special nursing areas such as psychiatric, community, pediatric, surgical and research methodology.

Successful completion of this course will be awarded as Diploma in Nursing

SLQF level - 4 & NVQF level - 6

Duration of the entire course is three years followed by one year of Internship. Those who already earned a certificate course in Heath Care will be posted to the hospitals and health centers where they can work. And those who haven’t any certificate course in health care will be appointed to the health sectors after fulfillment of six-month crash course work.
