The Ocean University of Sri Lanka (OCUSL) was established in 2014 under the Ocean University of Sri Lanka Act, No. 31 of 2014. Previously it was known as the National Institute of Fisheries and Nautical Engineering (NIFNI; established under Act No 36 of 1999). The NIFNI was the education and training arm of the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development of Sri Lanka and later became under the purview of Ministry of Skills Development and Vocational Training.
Currently, OCUSL is offering four BSc programs and a range of diplomas, certificate courses and mobile training programs with a view to transfer technology in order to enhance the sector performance.
The OCUSL is expanding her academic, research and training potential as a fully-fledgedNational University devoted to enhance the countries Marine, Maritime, Fisheries and allied sectors. The plans are underway to develop Ocean University as the regional leader in those sectors.
The Programme is designed to provide the students with professional knowledge and skills on integrated coastal and marine resources management to address the management issues in the coastal zone for sustainable development.
